About
General
Sabor Mercearia is a small grocery built around the idea that everyday food shopping can still feel personal, seasonal, and closely connected to the people who grow the ingredients. The shelves and tables lean toward fresh produce from small Portuguese farmers, with many items coming from organic or regenerative practices. Instead of trying to carry everything all year, the selection follows what is in season, so the mix changes with the calendar and with what producers are harvesting.
The shop was opened by Olivia Kohler and Bryce Lerebours, a French couple who brought some of the spirit of Provençal neighborhood groceries into Lisbon while keeping the sourcing focused on Portugal. Their approach is selective rather than supermarket-like: products are tasted, chosen, and labelled with their origin whenever possible. It is a useful stop for people who cook often, care about where food comes from, or simply want a more thoughtful place to pick up fruit, vegetables, pantry goods, and a few special treats.
Products
The fresh section is the heart of the shop. Depending on the season, you might find stone fruit, tomatoes, squash, citrus, greens, mushrooms, or other vegetables arranged in a way that feels closer to a market table than a conventional grocery aisle. The emphasis is on flavor, origin, and short supply chains, with produce coming from Portuguese farms in places such as Sintra, Loures, Torres Novas, and Alenquer when available.
Beyond fruit and vegetables, the range stretches into the things that make a pantry more interesting: cheeses, preserves, natural wine, craft beer, kombucha, coffee, honey, olive oil, rice, pasta, chocolate, snacks, and a small selection of international ingredients. Meat, chicken, fish, and some fresh items may depend on availability or pre-order systems, so it is the kind of place where the best purchase is often shaped by what has just arrived rather than by a fixed list.
Experience
Shopping here is meant to be slower and more conversational than a quick supermarket run. The owners keep close relationships with producers and can explain why a certain fruit is in season, where a vegetable came from, or why a product made it onto the shelf. That makes the visit especially appealing if you like asking questions, discovering new ingredients, or building a meal around whatever looks best that week.
The atmosphere is simple, warm, and hands-on, with wooden tables, baskets, and a visual style that feels personal rather than polished for show. It suits practical everyday shopping as much as small discoveries: a good bottle, a better tomato, a cheese for dinner, or pantry staples chosen with care. The main charm is that the shop feels curated without feeling distant, with freshness and traceability doing most of the talking.
